Cranes Mill Park COE

Canyon Lake, Texas

Located about 30 minutes from New Braunfels and San Antonio. This park was a great spot for us to unwind and settle more into our new home. We even went to IKEA and got a new couch after going without for three months! I wish we had more time to explore around Canyon Lake. There were a few roadside produce stands and wineries that we just didn’t have time for.

What we loved about this park was that each site had additional parking for your tow or a boat. The sites were mostly level and many backed into the lake. There is also a larger boat launch and I’m sure in season this place is packed. Gate closes at 10 PM so remember to get back before or you’ll get locked out! There is space to park out front and the walk in wouldn’t be to bad. Thankfully we always made it back in time.

Georgetown Lake, Georgetown, Texas

The camp hosts here were great! Super friendly and very very helpful. The campground was really nice and the views over the lake were beautiful. We stayed in site  61 which was very unlevel. We had to use six blocks on one side and four on the other just to make our front level with our back. Our neighbors had similar issues with leveling out. There are definitely more level spots so just be mindful when booking. Unfortunately, you can’t really tell from the photos on the website.

There is a grocery store less than 10 mins from the entrance and lots of restaurants around as well. The trail around the lake is 26 miles long and can be accessed from just outside the gates. I would recommend walking over the dam. The views are amazing. Would definitely stay again and already scoped out the best spot for our 36’ fifth wheel

Lewisville Lake, Hickory Creek, Texas

We stayed 14 nights here and really enjoyed it. The campground is huge with a variety of spots and plenty of space between them. We stayed in site 51 and really liked the view we had out onto the lake. I even saw a hawk pull a fish out of the water one day! Bathrooms were clean and my husband used the shower one and said they were nice. We have a 36’ fifth wheel and the site easily accommodated us. It was the most level, but it also wasn’t the worst either. There is definitely some room for updating, but over all this was a great campground with very friendly camp hosts.

Willow Grove Park

Lewisville Lake, Lake Dallas, TX

This park would be great if they had someone working the gate. So much traffic and it felt like it went way later than 10 pm. It’s very clean and the sites are pretty level. The view of the lake is really nice too. Unfortunately, our last night there someone stole our firewood bundle! Also, our neighbors rolled up on golf carts and let their kids ride all over our site. Very disrespectful. This would have been avoid had someone been there to monitor the place and access. We won’t be staying again as Hickory Creek campground across 35 was a much nicer experience, so if we need a spot in the area we’ll definitely be going there first. Also, dump station is near the middle school outside the park so had to drive our tote 1/4-1/2 mile up the street with a decent amount of traffic.

Lake Lavon, Wylie, TX

View was great and camp hosts were very friendly but the roads are horrible! The sites weren’t bad and ours was pretty level. The location is nice on the lake with lots of sail boats sailing by. There is plenty of space between sites, but no trees so not a lot of privacy. Probably wouldn’t stay again.
